Below is snipped from a NY TIMES review, by Kelefa Sanneh, of Jamie Foxx's
new CD, "Unpredictable". IMO, the last paragraph shows some rare insight
into the relationship between acting and performing as a singer/musician.
Perhaps a reaffirmation of the link between visual & aural content, and
"stardom" in the musical world?

Want to perform more? Get Visual. Trade in those old folks straw hat visuals
for current visual relevance to the new audience.

Cheers,
Steve

"Though it was released less than a month ago, his second CD,
"Unpredictable" (J/Sony BMG), has already established itself as a bona fide
hit. It has sold more than a million copies so far, and this week it's the
second most popular CD in the country (behind Mary J. Blige's latest), after
a two-week stint as No. 1." . . .

"Mr. Foxx's musical career may seem like yet another exercise in celebrity
wish fulfillment, but it's actually something cannier than that. It's proof
that, more than most would-be pop stars, he understands something about the
complicated relationship between acting and singing. Instead of trying to do
away with artifice (as if that were possible), instead of trying to give
listeners a raw portrait of the actor as man, Mr. Foxx found a way to get
into character, becoming the R&B star he once pretended to be.
"Unpredictable" isn't music as emotional release or music as therapy; it's
music as method acting. First you go through the motions, then they go
through you." . . .
