Contrary to misstatements in some 'dank corners' of the press:

26 January 2006 - Clevedon Jazz Club

THE MERIDIAN JAZZ BAND

Warm up a cold winters night with the Meridian Jazz Band - what more could Clevedon Jazz Fans want but an evening of authentic New Orleans music? Well that's what's on offer at Clevedon Jazz Club's Walton Park Hotel venue on Thursday 26 January!

The Meridian Jazz Band, led by local trumpet supremo Ron King, play classic hot jazz of the late 20's and early 30's, a style made famous by such greats as King Oliver, Henry 'Red' Allen, Jimmy Noone and 'Jelly Roll' Morton. This they mix with many traditional standards in a style that combines the driving force of Eddie Condon's bands of the 40's with some of the more fluent revivalist 'New Orleans' combinations of the 50's.

The band was formed in 1991, bringing together old friends to play the music they all loved. As well as playing together as Meridian both locally and throughout the West of England, most band members have ongoing commitments to other bands playing regularly in the Bristol and South Wales areas.

The doors open at 8pm, the music starts at 8.30pm and its £6 'on the door'. Further details of this and all other Clevedon Jazz Club events and Club membership - members get a substantial discount on admission charges! - are available from Trev or Bill on 0700 5806 252 or from the Club's web site www.clevedonjazzclub.co.uk
