HI PAM & GENE:

HAPPY NEW YEAR:

AS THE FEARLESS LEADER OF A New ORLEANS PARADE JAZZ MARDI GRAS FUNERAL
MARCHING BAND,
I usually opt for marching in the parades for the authenticity of it
not to mention the interaction and fun with the audience.

If you must play on a flatbed truck, I suggest getting a generator that
is fairly new if possible that does not make so much noise, and then if
you can get someone to build you a box around it to enclose it at one
end of the truck as far away from the band as possible it helps keep
the noise out of your ears. Careful placement of the P.A. speakers
and monitors to avoid feedback should give you good projection off the
sides of the truck with not much interference. Tricky but usually
works pretty well.

Good Luck,

Tom Wiggins

Hey Gene tell those Parade folks up there to invite us and I'll book us
in one of the Big Casinos to pay the air fares :))

Hey Pam: We have been invited to play the Martin Luther KING DAY
PARADE IN LONG BEACH on Jan 14th, still negotiating the $$ but if it
is right we will be there.

   Hi Pam

Happy New Year

I really appreciate your inquiry as my goal is to have a similar
jazz/street
band in Rapid City SD. My idea is a New Orleans type float to use for
parades in the summer. I also would need information regarding
generator
output to handle miking instruments and vocals. Although brass music
sounds
great on the street with the sounds bouncing off buildings, a smaller
band
would need some help. I feel the best way to promote NO Jazz in SD is
to
take it to where the crowds gather, and there are numerous large
parades in
the Black Hills throughout the summer. Most locals have never been
exposed
to Dixieland Jazz. If Dixieland was played on a guitar and played in a
corral, local residents would probably identify with it. How would they
know if they never heard it. I think the flood in NO may have made an
awareness regarding this wonderful music and be more receptive to it.

My cousin Duane called me yesterday and is encouraging me to come visit
him
in Palm Desert. I have considered the adult music camp in San Diego in
Jan,
however, am wearing a partial until my implants are inserted this
spring. I
cannot do continuous playing until I get the implants. I really hope my
chops are in place for the Sacramento Jazz Camp. I do plan to retire
from
my daytime gig (Government) end of March.

Best wishes in the New Year

Gene Hovland from SD.
