[Dixielandjazz] On Parade

Hi Pam

Happy New Year

I really appreciate your inquiry as my goal is to have a similar jazz/street
band in Rapid City SD. My idea is a New Orleans type float to use for
parades in the summer. I also would need information regarding generator
output to handle miking instruments and vocals. Although brass music sounds
great on the street with the sounds bouncing off buildings, a smaller band
would need some help. I feel the best way to promote NO Jazz in SD is to
take it to where the crowds gather, and there are numerous large parades in
the Black Hills throughout the summer. Most locals have never been exposed
to Dixieland Jazz. If Dixieland was played on a guitar and played in a
corral, local residents would probably identify with it. How would they
know if they never heard it. I think the flood in NO may have made an
awareness regarding this wonderful music and be more receptive to it.

My cousin Duane called me yesterday and is encouraging me to come visit him
in Palm Desert. I have considered the adult music camp in San Diego in Jan,
however, am wearing a partial until my implants are inserted this spring. I
cannot do continuous playing until I get the implants. I really hope my
chops are in place for the Sacramento Jazz Camp. I do plan to retire from
my daytime gig (Government) end of March.

Best wishes in the New Year

Gene Hovland from SD.
