[Dixielandjazz] Question for the history buffs

I'm reading a book "Exploring Early Jazz " by Daniel Hardie.  In it he  talks 
about New Orleans  street musicians in the late 19th century playing  blues 
on the "tin Christmas horn" .  Is this some sort of valveless child's  toy?  
Anyone know where I can see or hear one played on the internet?  Thanks.
