A music download project for "true jazz lovers" is gearing up to
launch*.* The not-for-profit scheme is hoping to exploit an apparent
growing demand for jazz music across the country. The project, which is
entitled JazzDUP, has been backed by Dundee's Abertay University and
Scottish Enterprise Tayside. The website, the brainchild of music
graduate Sean Kerwin, will offer album tracks, live recordings,
interviews and images to broadband customers. He said the project would
be a specialist site for "true jazz lovers".
"We mean to offer higher quality audio than other more mainstream
services," said Mr Kerwin.
"We are aiming to forge very close links with jazz artists, linking to
their websites and working closely with management and promoters to
bring live performances online as well as recordings."
The project came after a recent survey by the Arts Council of England,
which suggested that about 15 million people regularly listened to jazz
Mr Kerwin said he may launch the service commercially if the site proves
to be popular.
He has appealed to musicians to allow their recordings to be made
available on the website.
