I have yet to hear a less-than-excellent jim Cullum recording! While my
own
personal favourite are "Hurray for Hoagy" and "Shooting the Agate," but
all
those I've heard so far are great! Of course, hearing them all would
almost
exclude listening to anything else!<<

"Hooray for Hoagy" is also one of my favorites, and I'm not even on it.
The first one I recorded with the band in 1991 was "Shootin' the Agate."
We regularly perform tunes from both CDs. The latest, "Chasin' the
Blues" is the only one with all the current guys plus Topsy Chapman.

>>And you might try some of the Cullum-Barnard collaborations.<<

There is only one of those, called "Cornet-Copia." Some of the tunes
feature an Australian band backing up Jim and Bob.

>>Am I correct in assuming that in 1963 it was still the The Happy Jazz
Band
led by Jim Snr?<<

Yes. Jim Sr. passed on in 1973, Jr. took over leadership and changed the
name to the Jim Cullum Jazz Band.

>>Have any HJB records been reissued? I have only heard two, and would
love
to hear more!<<

There are only two. "The Good Stuff," "Goose Pimples" from the 60s
features Bobby Hackett. Go to

>>Has the "Battle of Bands" between it and the World's Greatest
Jazz Band been recorded? Is Ernie Caceres on any of the band's
records?<<

No to both. There were several Battles in the 1960s. The HJB vs. Don
Albert and his band, World's Greatest Jazzband, etc. Ernie as well as
Rich Matteson were in there.
