> Hi Listees, Could someone on our list help me indentify a saxophone player
I photographed while a group of GI's were on a week-end pass from camp Polk,
LA............ A group of us decided to hit New Orleans in late March of
1952. However I didn't get the name of the group or the sax man. Could
this have been Sam Butera?? Or any other possibles?
Regards,
Charlie (still curious) Coleman<

Dear Charlie,
A DJMLer may recognise the reed man from your photograph, if you were to
provide a link to it. (Attachments are not permitted and will be stripped.)
The best I can offer is the following personnel for the Leon Prima band from
1954:
Leon Prima, t/vcl; Santo Pecora, tb; Lester "Gilly" Bouchon, cl/ts; Roy
Zimmerman, p; Chink Martin, sb; Monk Hazel, d.
I have a photograph of Lester Bouchon from this period and he had a
wonderful little pencil moustache. Two quarter circles curving down and
outward from each nostril!
Sam Butera was in New Orleans in the 1950s and recorded two sides there with
vocalist Eileen Barton and the Mardi Gras Loungers on August 19, 1952 with
Thomas Jefferson,t; James Delaney, tb; Sidney Davilla, cl) Sam Butera, ts,
Charles Luckow, p; Arthur Pons, g; John Senac, sb; Louis Kohlman, d.
Butera also recorded with Leon's famous brother, Louis, in the 1950s.
Kind regards,
Bill.
