[Dixielandjazz] pay scale in the old days

Going back to beginnings...While I was still in high school about 1941, we had a 12 piece band playng big band charts.  We were booking gigs for $3 per man.  When I joined the union at the tender age of 16 in 1943, union scale for a 4 hour gig was $13.

Well, in '65, I was a year out of Kirkwood High School, and singing at the
Muny Opera as a chorus member for $80 a week...  My first weekly gig, as a
musician, was at that great institution of higher musical learning -
Shakey's (ta da) in St. Louis, about '68.  I remember I was thrilled to be
making union scale at the time - $7.00 an hour - a total of $28 a night!!!
