Dear Bob,
I have the Bud Freeman Orch "Town Hall Blues" (NY,15 Nov 1945) and, like you
suggest, have no doubt that it is not the one Mr Friedwald was referring to.
"Town Hall Blues" is a 'typical Eddie Condon-style concert
solos/ensemble-out piece. It was backed by a more swing-style riffish item,
"Inside on The Outside" (NY, 10 Dec 1945).
Keynote was established in New York in 1940 by Eric Bernay, although better
known for the bop and swing sides produced in the mid 40s by Harry Lim. John
Hammond later took it into Classical music. To avoid bankruptcy Keynote was
sold to Mercury in 1948. There was certainly no connection with Capitol.
Kind regards,
Bill.
