Dear Leslie,
Thank you for the unfortunate and very sad news (and the Bulletin Board
link) regarding Jack Lesberg.
I first met Jack when he came to Australia in March 1964 with the Eddie
Condon All Stars (what a wild weekend that was!).
He returned in April 1956 with the Louis Armstrong All Stars, so I was able
to renew our acquaintance.
Jack fell in love with Sydney and returned to live here in 1973.
He played gigs with Bob Barnard and recorded an LP with him at the time.
I seem to recall that he also led his own small group here.
(I have an article/details about all this - somewhere.)
Jack's wife ran a stained glass teaching studio in an 1840s historic former
rum warehouse building in Sydney's 'Rocks' area.
At that time I was an associate with an architectural firm in the office
below, so was fortunate to get to know Jack a lot better.
A wonderful musician, and a very friendly and charming man.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
