Not strictly OKOM, but here is a group trying to do something about jazz
awareness at the College level. The Advertising Agency is DL Media here in
the Philadelphia Area. (Bala Cynwyd, PA). To see their bio, visit:

This is promotion of the more modern styles of jazz, but it seems to me that
IAJE who is also involved in this, might be persuaded to bring the origins
of jazz and OKOM in the project also. Note also that some funding comes from
the National Endowment for the Arts, The Urban League, Howard University and
the National Organization of Black Owned Broadcasters.

Interesting goals, interesting mission statement. Interesting also that the
more heavily endowed Colleges and Universities in the USA don't get going
with such an arts program.

Cheers,
Steve

www.gotjazz.info <http://www.gotjazz.info>

Jazz Alliance International, Inc. (JAI), a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to significantly expanding the global jazz audience through
education, leadership and advocacy today announced its "Jazz Up Your Campus"
Contest and its new web site www.gotjazz.info, an innovative gateway into
the world of jazz and the jazz lifestyle. Dig hip-hop?, R&B?, Pop?...
www.gotjazz.info celebrates the continuum of jazz and demonstrate how jazz
relates to today's most celebrated artists.

The www.gotjazz.info "Jazz Up Your Campus" contest is designed to engage
creative, culturally aware students and encourage them to learn more about
jazz and contribute to a nationwide music promotion, bringing jazz music and
culture to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) nationwide.
Students are encouraged to submit an essay concept (300-500 words) on
introducing young, diverse populations on HBCU campuses to jazz,
incorporating the major tenants of jazz including freedom, expressionism and
innovation. Concepts should include an outline or fulfillment strategy, the
number of targeted students, campus/student involvement and the use of
current technology. All submissions will be entered in a chance to win
round-trip airfare plus 4 days and 3 nights in New York City and
participation in the "largest gathering of the global ja! zz community".

Visit www.gotjazz.info for complete contest rules and regulations and to

Urban League and Howard University's Jazz and Theatre Departments.

JAI is a subsidiary of the International Association for Jazz Education
(IAJE) www.iaje.org and is dedicated to expanding the audience and
visibility of jazz and, through education, leadership and advocacy, seeks to
raise the profile of the jazz art form and foster better working
relationships within the global jazz community.
