All this talk about trombone glisses.  You'd think that's all we trombonists
do!  There are lots of other things that you can do with a slide that you
can't do with valves or holes.  There's the slight "slide" up to a note, or
a drop from a note.  No need, you other wind people saying you can do it
with your chops...it ain't the same.  There's the slide vibrato.  There's
quarter tones.  There's infinite chances to tune properly, and even to play
a bit high or low on a note on purpose.  There's the chance to attract
someone's attention with the slide.  I can even pick up my wah-wah mute
using the spit valve on the end of the slide, saving my having to bend over.

 
Trombones rule!
