Hi Guys:

Here is an advertisement by a DJ in the Portland area, obviously it is
a bit cheaper than other Major markets but this is a typical ad by a DJ
trying to hustle work. This one is a desperate ROCK MUSICIAN selling
himself as a DJ top get a gig and hedging his bet by offering to bring
his band for the same price. :))

Not a bad idea for competing with DJs but not enough money either, so
obviously he is simply competing in PRICE not Quality.

I have to agree with Steve, if you gotta make em happy with a DJ, Hell
bring a Cd player and play it on your breaks and dress grampa up in a
striped shirt with suspenders and Red overalls and a derby or straw
hat and a pair of paten leather slippers and let him boogie till he
pukes while spinnin those Cds and talkin trash on a microphone, and if
aunt Ethel gets drunk and wants to sing Karaoke, let her have fun
making a fool of herself in front of the family. Will give 'em all
something to talk about come Thanksgiving Dinner or Christmas, not to
mention New years Resolutions. :))
Cheers,

Tom Wiggins

Live Band or Dj , Same price !! Nov Special WOW!!!

I have been DJ,ing sense I had to turn albums on a old player with a
needle held on with duck tape. Sense then things have obviously changed
a lot. Now I have over $ 15,000 Dollars in equipment. We don?t use
those little scratched cd?s we have them all digitally recorded on a
fast high definition ,advanced to computer, which means we can play
those oldies as well as the current hits, with no distortion or skips.
I read a Craig list posting add earlier about some other DJ that was
bragging about having 5 to 6 thousand in DJ equipment, well, that
covers only one of our power amps. We have 7 thousand just in power
amps and another 8 thousand plus in , equalizers, mixers, mics,
computers, etc?Monster speakers with crystal clean clear sound to hear
even a pin drop in a song. Tons of equipment . Loud is not the case, it
is Quality. To have quality you have to buy the best equipment
,specially if you are advertising how great you are. I have over 10,000
songs from the 60?s to current. I play what ever type of music you
want. I also gladly take request. I am a professional master of
ceremony?s . I have mc?ed for car shows, weddings, banquets , parties,
award ceremony?s and so on. That means I know how to talk, and keep
crowd interested and having a good time. The most important thing I am
known for , is my humor and personality,. Almost anyone can throw in a
cd, but it takes a natural to have a out going personality along with
some fast thinking humor. You can?t teach that. So when you want some
one to really set your place on fire with professionalism and dresses
the part as well. Give me a call. Oh , also sense I love to do it and
not in it for the money, NO ONE can beat my price. Here is another
note. We also have a Classic Rock LIVE band where we play all over
Portland on a regular basis. See, I told you we are pros. Contact me
anytime and I will respond promptly and also if you do want a LIVE BAND
in place of a DJ,,, check out our web site??
http://picturedwindows.tripod.com Thanks hear from you soon, Dr Mike
the Mic. NOTE FOR NOVEMBER SPECIAL >>> OUR CLASSIC ROCK BAND CAN PLAY
LIVE CLASSIC ROCK MUSIC AT YOUR EVENT FOR SAME PRICE AS WE DJ FOR, SO
HURRY IF YOU WANT THIS NOVEMBER SPECIAL......MIke Leave Phone number
for us to call you...
this is in or around Portland & Vancouver Areas

          Compensation: $300.00

Nowhere is an ad looking for a DJ which was right below the one above
I swear it:

Now if the OKOM musicians of yesteryear had kept marketing and
promoting live music there would be no couples in their 40'S getting
married and looking for a damned DJ instead of a live band. They are
old enough to know better, but have been obviously brainwashed into the
DJ syndrome.

Why ?? because if you look on the same lists of FREE classifieds that
are full of DJ adds and wedding planner adds you find a strange absence
of Live Bands advertising for gigs for Weddings and parties. Now
everybody reading this has a computer so there is no excuse for not
posting as many Free adds in as many places as you can find to do so on
the internet.

Try going to www.craigslist.com classifieds, look for musicians, then
go to GIGS and look under EVENTS, and TALENT,
write yourself and ad and post it and it will run for seven days.
Now while it is running go over to Community EVENTS and search through
the ones posted and find gigs and people who are producing gigs all
around you, get their email address and contact them and send them your
ads. Want to branch out a bit and play other cities, look at the list
and pick the one you want to travel to and search under the same
headings there. :))

When you have gigs booked, go to the EVENTS categories and post
announcements about your gig and where and when you will be there etc.
Magically you will start getting dates on the calendar and people you
never knew showing up to hear you.

Shameless self promotion works, and not doing it gets nothing
"absolutely nothing".

Cheers,

Tom Wiggins
