CHRIS PEARCE'S FRENCHMAN STREET JAZZ BAND

Thursday 10 November 2005

Over the year's during which Clevedon Jazz Club benefited from the bimonthly residency of the The Blue Note Jazz Bands, audiences became well aware that the 'second' reed player - Chris Pearce - is a very talented musician to be reckoned with in his own right. They have in fact joined a far wider audience who have seen and enjoyed Chris's music in trios and quartets around the festival scene for a good many years.

Last year Chris put together one of those bands for Clevedon Jazz Club and it was one of the highlights of the year. This year, following popular demand, Chris has agreed to do it again, featuring some of the best musicians in the West of England to thrill and entertain the audience at Clevedon Jazz Club's Walton Park Hotel venue on Thursday 10 November. In recognition of one of Chris' favourite haunts in New Orleans he named this band the Frenchman Street Jazz Band.

Chris, who originally hails from Liverpool, was educated at the same school as Paul MaCartney and was a chorister at Liverpool Cathedral. When he moved south he joined the Riverside Jazz Band in Bath before leaving to join the Blue Notes. Between Times crosswords and playing his clarinet and soprano sax to an ever increasingly appreciative following, he has sold plastic, insurance, whisky and bricks.

The doors at Clevedon Jazz Club's Walton Park Hotel venue open at 8pm, the music starts at 8.30pm and its £7 'on the door'. Further details of this and all other Clevedon Jazz Club events, and Club membership - members get a substantial discount on admission charges! - are available from Trev on 0700 5806 252 or from the Club's web site at www.clevedonjazzclub.co.uk.
