No, but when I was teaching, I had an early music group and tried my 
hand at schawm.  Related to oboe, double reed, predecessor of, that 
type of thing.  I was lucky I found a kid that liked to play it so I 
didn't have to.  I stayed on sackbutt.   Another thought on the oboe.  
I have heard for years that the most pressured job that a person might 
hold is not that of the president of the US, or a brain surgeon, but 
that of the principal oboe in a major symphony orchestra.  If there is 
the slightest imperfection in their tone, tuning or articulation it is 
instantly recognizable as to the culprit,  unlike the trombones where 
we can play approximoto and no one cares,  just part of the sound of 
the instrument.  Of course, I can think of several trombone solos where 
that theory bits the dust. :):):)
