Yup, video programs also have effects for putting scratches and other
artifacts onto video files.
If you want to see some of the great flame wars of all time, go to usenet
groups such as rec.audio.pro and rec.audio.high-end and put in "CD -vs-
Vinyl" or similar topics. You'll find 1000 post threads that last for weeks.
Both sides claim to have proof that the format they champion sounds better.
I for one like both. I do 99.99% of whatever recording I do in the digital
domain. There's certainly no denying that a digital recording has the
potential to have a lower noise floor and greater dynamic range. There's
just so much even the best stylus and cartridge can do. And as far as
editing, digital puts you in a whole different universe of ease, speed,
flexibility and reliability.
But there's just something satisfying about playing LP's. I for one enjoying
the ritual of using a vacuum irrigation rig to clean them - something that
should be done with all vinyl for sonic reasons as well as longevity of the
stylus and the LP but very few people do - and then letting them spin. I
do have some LP's that are virtually free of surface tics and except in the
quietest areas, surface noise is a non-issue. Their dynamic range may not be
as great, but realistically for most purposes, does it have to be?
Btw, this is my first post to DJML. As I understand it, to reply you replace
the address of the post you're replying to with the DJML address? I guess
I'll find out if this goes through.
