Hello Jeff,

That's a very interesting question. We have to remember that as early jazz was being created the only connection between the Old and the New World was by boat. Therefore it is almost certain that any influence would be wielded by Welsh immigrants in the Southern States of the USA. There are certainly some Welsh names among the early creators - Evans, Jones, Williams
I think the only recourse is to investigate the US census. I think there was one at the beginning of the 20th century. If I remember right, I think this was where IBM got established with the punch card sorting machine.

Not much help I'm afraid, but it might jog some other people's memories.
