Once again (7 years in a row now) Barbone Street will be at Sydney's Jazz &
Blues Restaurant in celebration of Louis Armstrong's Birthday.

This is one of the neatest events we play. In a Jazz Nightclub with fans of
all ages, races, genders and social status. Super atmosphere of friendly,
cheering, dancing people. Plus great food.

Dave Robinson from the Wash DC area (Potomac River Jazz Club) will be on
cornet because our regular trumpet guy is covering an ongoing gig at the
Showboat Casino in Atlantic City.

Dave is an accomplished OKOMer and member of The Washington Conservatory
Jazz Band, playing frequently at some MAJOR venues in that part of the USA.
But, that's only half the story. Dave is also the Music Director and guiding
light of the Capital Focus Jazz Band, an excellent youth band, well known in
the Eastern USA.

CFJB went to Aspen Colorado a few weeks ago to attend what I think is the
only all-scholarship jazz residency program in the USA at Jazz Aspen
Snowmass Academy. ALL EXPENSES (travel, meals, lodging) PAID for 10 days.
They were chosen as THE BEST NEW ORLEANS JAZZ YOUTH BAND among all the other
applicants. "A slam dunk" according to the judges.

What a great experience that must have been, free jazz workshops with
Artistic Director Christian McBride, Program Director Loren Schoenberg and
teachers that in past have included Terell Stafford, Russell Malone, Benny
Green, Eddie Palmieri, Wycliff Gordon, Carl Allen and Herbie Hancock. Who
are they? Some of the best jazz musicians in the world.

Poor Dave did not get to go as the Academy only enrolls the performing
musicians in the youth bands for the scholarship residency program.

However, he'll be with the usual suspects in Barbone Street as follows:

Fri & Sat Night - Aug 5 & 6 - 9:30 PM to 1:00 AM
Sydney's Jazz & Blues Restaurant
25 Christian Street
Rehoboth Beach DE.
302-227-1339

Not only that, but DJML list mate Pat Briody (trombone) will be there Aug 5
and we've asked him to sit in a tune or two.

If you are anywhere nearby, please fall by and see what I've been posting
about. OKOM live, in a vibrant club setting where the music and musicians
are cheered and revered like Rock Stars. Swing dancing too, as a group of
our dancer fans are travelling 100 miles each way to be there.

If you come, get there early . . . the joint will be jammed and jumping. The
bonding between the oldsters in the band and the youngsters in the audience
will astonish you.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

PS. I wonder when CFJB will be "discovered" by the OKOM Festival Circuit. It
is an extraordinary band of young trad jazz musicians. Yep, passing the
torch is what it's all about.
