Dear Steve,
That NY Daily News reference in Mr Bergreen's 1997 book (which I was aware
of) to a 'Carnegie Hall' concert in November 1947 is most likely an error on
his part.
I have always assumed that he was really referring to the famous Louis All
Stars' concert at Symphony Hall, Boston, Mass on 30 Nov 1947. Widely issued
on LP and CD by Decca, and others.
Or, perhaps, the Louis All Stars' New York Town Hall concert on 16 Nov 1947.
If there had been another Carnegie Hall concert in Nov 1947 (or May 1948), I
am sure that we would have heard about it by now.
However, I would be very happy to be proved wrong, and always welcome new
facts.
Although the Bergreen book is full of interesting research leads, it also
contains quite a few errors and suppositions. A good read, but to be taken
with caution so far as facts go.
["Jus' the facts Ma'am, jus' the facts."]
Kind regards,
Bill.
PS: Hopefully, one day, the files at Louis' home-museum in Queens, will be
become readily available on-line to answer questions like these.
Bill.
