Kinfolk,

I have read about the pros and cons of paying holders of music copyrights,
but have never taken it seriously because I am a small band doing casuals and
never expected to have the problem on a personal basis.

Recently, I discovered a friend of mine who owns and runs a cafe-billiards
establishment, and has  R&B bands on the weekends, has been paying three
organizations about $15,000 a year for music performance rights.

Question: does he really have to pay all this?
