Dear Dave Richoux,
Now see what you're started with "Sud Buster's Dream"!
8>)
As you indicate the "Sud Bustin, Blues" (Steve Lewis-Peter Bocage- AJ
Piron), as kindly sent in notation form by Rich Skrika, is an earlier and
unrelated tune.
However, it does confirm the washboard connection by association. "I'm a
sudbustin' woman in anybody's yard". (No washing machines in those days.)
Three of the recordings of this tune are listed on the music example
forwarded by Rich.
*Fletcher Henderson & His Club Alabam Orch (11 March 1924). Fast, non-vocal
with Coleman Hawkins featured.
*Sippie Wallace with Clarence Williams Harmonizers (13-14 June 1924). Very
slow, with additional lyrics to the verse.
*Alberta Jones (5 Sept 1925). Slightly faster, but same lyrics as the Sippie
Wallace record.
What is missing from the list is the original non-vocal, medium tempo,
recording of the song by Piron's New Orleans Orchestra (21 Dec 1923).
Lewis, p; and Bocage, c; were members of Piron's Orch at the time.
I, as you would expect, have all 4 of the records.
And, as usual, more than you needed to know.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
