Hello -
I have been a bit out of touch with the group for a few weeks. I was
in Israel/Palestine for 11 days, returning about 2 weeks ago, and just
now catching up on the dixieland jazz group.
Before I went I sent an email to Elazar Brandt, and his response
was extremely warm and inviting. As it turned out, I was tied in with a
church group tour, and never managed to hook up with Elazar, which I
deeply regret. If you ever go to Israel, give him notice!
When I contacted Elazar about not being able to meet him, he said
that he hoped I could at least put in a good word for tourism to the
area. I am more than happy to do that - both Israel and Palestine (West
Bank) are suffering greatly from the lack of tourism, which, in the past
has been a major part of the economy. We felt NO threat at all, whether
in Jerusalem, the Galilee area, and even in the West Bank. For example,
Bethlehem, in the past a real tourist site, is full of historical sites,
restaurants, gift shops, etc., that are falling over themselves to
welcome tourists. Of course, the old city in Jerusalem is just an
amazing place. If you ever had a thought of going to the area, do it!
They all need our support.
