Had a thought about what "Jazz Societies" might do to encourage more
musicians. In the Philadelphia PA area, the Tri State Jazz Society
presents monthly concerts for members, guests and walk ins. (Like many
in the USA), It hires Regional, National and sometimes International
Bands depending upon scheduling opportunities.

Naturally, all the featured bands take several breaks during these 4
hour programs. And so the "no name" intermission band was created and
plays during them. It is comprised of musicians in the area who are
learning to play, or learning to play Dixieland, or are otherwise not
expert enough to find paying OKOM gigs.

Great opportunity for Jazz Societies all over the World to encourage
OKOM musicians. They could create hundreds of new Dixieland bands

Just please don't ignore step 2 which is to expand the audience for the
music, so that those new bands have someplace to play after they become
good enough to do so.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
