I have found, the few times I've sat in, that one or two tunes is just not enough.
It take a few tunes to get warmed up and in the groove.

Also, if the band chooses unfamiliar tunes or familiar tunes in strange keys or with
strange changes, or at high speeds, the rookie musician can easily get lost or
disoriented leading to discouragement and self doubt.

I would suggest that if you do let rookie musicians sit in, be kind and chose
material that allows a reasonable change of success.
