Hi Listmates!
I'm intrigued by the discussion about the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and other=
jazz events in Europe this summer. I'm planning a cruise across the North=
Atlantic that will be prefaced by two nights in Amsterdam (July 28-29) so =
I'm interested in any tips as to where I might find some OKOM there. The f=
irst port out of Amsterdam is Edinburgh on August 1 and I gather that the F=
estival will be in full tilt at that time. I would appreciate it if Tom Wo=
od would look over his schdule and let me know what OKOM outfits will be pl=
aying, any time of the day since the ship won't leave until midnight. On a=
faint hope, beyond Edinburgh I will travel to the Orkneys, Shetlands and F=
aroe Islands and then Iceland and Greenland, Newfoundland (St. John's) and,=
finally, New York. I'm familiar enough with New York but the other ports =
would not seem to be naturals for OKOM. But possibly, in the vast expanse =
of OKOM knowledge represented in this list, someone has some info on these =
out-of-the-way places as well.
Thanks,

PS: Yes, Steve Barbone, this means I'll miss sitting in at your Rehoboth gi=
g in August. But, I'll be tracking you down eventually.

> Dear Rob,
The Zenith from Sydney also played at Edinburgh in 1991, we did the gospel=
=20
service in Princes Street Gardens, the Cotton Club, Festival Club, Spiegel=
=20
Tent, various hotels including the Cafe Royal Bistro and a Spirit of Fife
cruise on the Firth of Forth amongst other things. Just for fun I hunted
out the program. Were you with the Henry Ford Community College Jazz
Ensemble? Appearing from America at that festival (with a few similar name=
s for
2003) were:
Barney Kessel, Yank Lawson, Leon Redbone, The Rebirth Brass Band (Yes they=
=20
were all young guys) from New Orleans, but playing a new more funky style
jazz, Oliver Jones, Scott Hamilton, Marty Grosz, Kenny Davern, Jake Hanna,
The Lighthouse all Stars, The Bob Margolin Band, Joe Pass, Jazz Incredibles=
=20
(Jean Kittrell piano), New York Jazz, plus from UK, Humphrey Lyttelton
and his Band and the Zenith from Sydney.
Cheers
Tom Wood
