  The Wall Street Journal, 6/13/03.
REVIEW/Books
1929: A NOVEL OF THE JAZZ AGE. by Frederick Turner. (Counterpoint, 390
pages. $25.00)
"...The Beiderbecke legend served as the basis for an awful novel,
Dorothy Baker's "Young Man With A Horn" (1938), while the known facts of
his brief life eventually made their way into a first-rate biography,
Richard M. Sudhalter's "Bix Man and Legend" (1974)...Mr Turner's
Beiderbecke plays for Al Capone, parties with Buster Keaton, sleeps with
Clara Bow and takes Maurice Ravel up to Harlem to hear the Duke
Ellington band..." Terry Teachout. There is more, but...
Cheers.
Fred
