[Dixielandjazz] Preserving Audio Collections - additional point

At a party recently I met a recently retired film Editor who said during a
discussion about classic jazz that sound recordings on CD had an expected
life of about 15 years. To preserve the music further he said that at the 15
year point each CD would need to be re-recorded (copied). He also made the
point that the same applies to videotape and that most broadcasting and film
organisations now only rely on actual film for long-term storage rather than
tape.
Verdict - my 800 plus CD collection appears now to be a liability rather
than asset. Maybe I should have kept al those vinyls!
