I have my old hi-fi turntable (Thorens TD 124)* with Shure pickup (M91ED)*
hooked to the computer's sound card (SoundBlaster Live)* via a RadioShack Stereo
Mixer* (Realistic Model 32-1100A). The mixer is necessary to preamplify the
needle cartridge signal and will allow you to plug in other equipment such as
cassette and tape recorders, VHS player, radio, etc. as sound sources. The
software is Cool Edit 2000 by Syntrillium Software. Also within that I use the
Pro Audio Cleaning Plugin and the Pro Audio Equalizing Plugin.

To burn CD's I have a Sony CDR writer and use the Roxio software, Easy CD
Creator. This has a means to make CD labels and covers/inserts for the CD cases.
There are 1/8 inch thick CD cases which store easier in your CD rack than
the more common 1/4" thick, but have no place on the ends of them for labels to
be seen. Therefore, you have to have your CD rack organized by some
library/coding system to find stuff after you've filed them in there and you have to
return the CD to its proper place when you're through. Otherwise, you can still
buy blank 1/4" CD cases which allow you to identify the CD by the end label.

Items marked with * (or suitable equivalents) can be found on eBay.
RadioShack probably has a new mixer available, but will be $80-$120 rather than $20-30
which you can get used via auction. The software from Syntrillium (~$130)
can be purchased from their site: www.syntrillium.com and the Roxio software
(~$50) is available at most computer stores like CompUSA or BestBuy as are blank
CDs (80 min) and cases.

After you're done recording the LP's you can sell them on eBay, but don't
expect more than about $7-10 each and it will take some time at that. However,
it should pay for the equipment you need to buy and let you borrow LP's or
CDs..whatever and make more CD's. When I convert an LP, I offer it to friends for
$10 a copy including a nice case and a copy of the original LP liner notes.
(I do not make a lot of money doing this.)
