Hi Listmates,
One of the tunes we play in the Cell Block 7 is "Alligator Hop." Now
whether it's true or not, I generally say something about the foot stompers
who hung out in the low down dives where the jazz bands played in the early
days. They were generally on the prowl for chicks and liquor and, being on
the sleazy side, thought it a high fashion statement to wear alligator
shoes and belts. As a result they were nicknamed "Alligators" - hence, "See
ya later, alligator!"
Somebody told me that (I forget who) and it seemed reasonable to me, so I
have been perpetuating the story. - Anyway, that's my story about Alligators
and the Alligator Hop and I'm sticking with it!
Respectfully submitted,
Bill "After while, crocodile" Gunter
