Perhaps you have had a few bouts with this year's holiday shopping and want
to reward yourself with a good meal and some good fun?! (Bring the whole
family to show the kids what traditional jazz used to be like.)
On Tuesday, December 16, we will be playing at The Mug Restaurant, at 3240
Chili Ave (Chili-Paul Plaza off the Chili Center from Rt 490). We are happy to
feature Paul Preston on clarinet and soprano sax with us for the evening.
Paul is the leader of the Barroom Buzzards band from Buffalo which has played on
the Showboat moored in the Buffalo harbor for the last 20 years.* Old fans
of the Stompers will remember the concert (about 10 years ago) we put on at
the Batavia Holiday Inn which co-featured the Barroom Buzzards and the
PierceArrrow barbershop quartet with us. Paul loves to recreate the Sidney Bechet
sound and the night should be a lot of fun! The time is 7 -> 9:30PM and table
reservations can be made at 889-4547. There is no cover charge, but we do accept
donations to help with our mailing campaign.
*(Ed. comment: Contrary to the common conception...not just stuck in the mud,
but actually floating.)
Our recent concert for the Flower City Jazz Society in Buffalo reenforced our
commitment to early jazz. Several fans came up and thanked us for a solid
evening of dixieland jazz which was not "watered down" with other pops music.
We are going to be more deligent in posting our events on the ArtsRochester
event calendar. This will become a good way for you to keep in touch with our
latest schedule. Follow this link and select Smugtown Stompers from the
