    The book is "The Wonderful Era of the Great Dance Bands", by Leo Walker;
published by Da Capo Press.
It's a large format (8 1/2 x 11) book in paperback. The picture of the
payroll is on pg. 44, and the picture of the band is on pg. 75.   In the
picture is another guy I played with in New Orleans in the late 40s: Sal
Franzella...a great clarinetist and reed player....I remember Sal had an old
Cadillac hearse he used to drive around.  We went fishing in it a few times.
   The book has loads of great pictures.  I highly recommend it.
