Anytime you are in Borders, you might ask at the Information Desk for a
copy of "Jazz
Essentials", a free, 71 page, colored booklet of jazz recordings,
chronologically from 1925-1999. Naturally, it is designed for a
"booming" market--1925-39 has 5 pages, 1959-69, 20! This may account for
Duke Ellington's great 1930s-1940s band being ignored--his first disc is
the 1956 Newport concert. If for nothing else, it is worth having for
the album cover art, although a magnifying glass improves the view.
Cheers.
