The latest is to compile a list of  (hopefully available) recordings of
popular whistlers from the Ragtime era through to the 1940s."

Then a list of whistlers follows including "Whistling Jack Smith".

Bill, maybe you are confusing this name with "Whispering Jack Smith", who
was a vocalist.
