Hi Nancy & Listmates,
Now that is another John Norris, Nancy.
The John Norris I refer to was formerly a member of this list and liked to
be known as the "old curmudgeon" He has retired from regular playing now, I
believe.
I am looking at the album I bought, as you have got my memory working. It
is called "John Norris and the New Orleans Jazz Band of Hawaii" and they
were resident at the Hilton Hawaiin Village Hotel, Waikiki. Very good
dixieland jazz and it was a highly entertaining to both watch and listen to.
The sleeve notes say that Trummy Young actually led the original band
(named the Hawaiin Village Stompers) from 1967 until 1973, when John Norris
took over the gig with his band.
That is an interesting spin you have introduced - "leader knows best, etc."
As a leader myself, I tend to agree but I may be prejudiced!
Regards,
Brian
