Gary,
Sorry, I can't agree with this premise, there is no way you could gage =
the OKOM following from MAJOR CD producers. I personally have over 500 =
jazz CDs, over half are trad, none from any major CD producer. In =
addition half of the traditional bands that I attend, have no CDs at =
all, but still have sizeable followings. In addition, I think the major =
CD producers are in bigger trouble than OKOM. Many artists of all music =
genres today are producing their own CDs and selling them at concerts =
and over the Internet. I believe this trend will continue and grow. A =
week ago I attended a concert at Stubbs Park in Centerville, Ohio. Dave =
Greer=92s Classic Jazz Stompers before a crowd of apprx. 1000 people, =
two-thirds of which had never seen a traditional jazz band in their =
life. They sold out of the three different CD titles they had brought =
along, none of which had been made by any major CD producer.

Listmates,
If you want to know the World OKOM potential just check with any of =
the
MAJOR CD producers see what the percentage of genres of CDs are sold, =
i.e.
rock, rap country, latin, pop and so on.
Figure that the average person buys maybe 3 or 4 CDs a year. Divide =
the
total CDs sold per year by 3.5 and you come up with two conclusions. =
The
first being that there are not that many OKOM CDs being sold and =
second that
the late teens/early 20's are the ones who buy most of all CDs made.
All the people I've talked to who sell their recordings along side =
the
band gigs have told me they would starve to death if they had to =
depend on
recording sales to survive.
The market is there. The target group just has to be made to feel =
that
it's cool and they discovered it. Every jazz generation for the last =
hundred
years has felt that way!
Ya'll have a good day! Gary W.
