List mates:
Yes, like Rob, I think factionalism is ridiculous. Barbone Street is an
OKOM band by anyone on the List's definition. Yet here is a partial list
of who our six 1st call members have played paying gigs with. (includes
some non OKOM musicians)
Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Clifford Brown, Roy
Eldridge, Billie Holliday, Peggy Lee, Louis Prima, Max Roach, Buddy
Rich, Pete Fountain, Sidney Bechet, Al Hirt, Thelonious Monk, Charlie
Ventura, Roswell Rudd, Gene Schroeder, Dave Frishberg, Walter Bishop
Jr., Yank Lawson, Pee Wee Irwin, Bob Haggart, Eddie Condon, et al.
And one of our regulars has even performed with Vladimir Horowitz, Artur
Rubenstein, Yo Yo Ma, Isaac Stern, Pablo Casals, Andres Segovia, Luciano
Pavarotti, et al.
Not to mention more current jazzers we've gigged with like Ed Polcer,
Ernie Carson, Randy Reinhart, Jon Erik Kelso, Joe Ascione, Greg Cohen,
Kenny Davern, Dan Levinson et al.
Plus a ton of commercial gigs with Meyer Davis, Lester Lanin, Bobby
Rydel, Frankie Avalon, Mike Douglas TV Show, et al.
Now that we are old folks, we are playing OKOM almost exclusively. And
we love it.
Is it any wonder we don't have time for factionalism? We're too busy
trying to keep up. Like Satchel Paige once said: "Don't look back,
something may be gaining on you."
Cheers,
