[Dixielandjazz] A vicious attack

Hi Jim, and all,

Wow . . . ! Is that ever a hoot.

I think the writer is a bit over the top, but the concept (trad jazz is for
us old farts and that's about it) is probably quite true.

Nevertheless, we old farts are still alive and kicking, though our ranks are
diminished daily as we advance to the big jam set in the sky, we still count
for something on the planet.

Jazz will come around again although it may be a bit move vulgar than we'd
be comfortable with. But on the other hand, our parents most likely thought
that "Our music" was pretty vulgar to them. Hey - here's to that vulgarity .
. . it keeps us all on our toes.

I'm saving the essay for two reasons:

1. It gives me confort and solace for our generation

2. It reminds me there is nothing so sacred and sacrosanct that it can't be
ridiculed and tossed aside as "old fashioned and quaint."

Also, it gives me a sense of superiority to know that we have had something
pretty lasting while current generations change fads as often as they change
their underwear . . . perhaps more often ;-) . . . and they'll have no solid
generational art form to follow them into their future. Poor sods!

Aren't we the lucky ones?

Respectfully submitted,

bill Gunter
