I just received the monthly notice that DJML is still an active mailing
list, although since we lost our most avid posters awhile back, there has
been little activity!  Shame, but that is life for you.  Fortunately, I'm
still playing, although not at the levels of activity we had "pre pandemic",
but I gather that is the same world-wide.  Again, that's life!  

 

I just got around to posting on YouTube some videos from a concert we had in
August.  This concert was put on by the local city hall of Guadarrama, a
town that sits on the foothills of a range of mountains near Madrid, Spain
(Madrid being where I live!).  Our band, Canal Street Jazz Band .now in our
55th year of continuous playing, was invited to play in this lovely town
square, and I thought it might be entertaining for some of you to have a
small view of what this sort of summer concert can be like in Spain.  Yes,
it was hot!  Yes, there were the requisite small children who couldn't sit
still, etc., but overall it was a nice evening.  I will add a few links
below to various bits of songs we did, including what I would call "the foot
stunt" that I tend to do if the ambience calls for it.  Always goes well,
but may not be acceptable to the purists out there!  We claim to play
traditional jazz, but have never claimed to "be traditional"!   :>

*	 This added video at the end is just a closure video, featuring
friends from the Philly "Pops" Orchestra that were playing in Madrid a few
years ago, and some of the members joined us on stage, while many, many
others from the orchestra cheered them on from the audience.  Fun night!

So, just to let the few of you that may still be on the list that I'm still
honking, and if you ever plan of a visit to Madrid, be sure and let me know.
For the some 25 (or more!) years on the list I've met so, so many folks from
the list.all lovely folks!
