Phil
Good find. I'd love a copy please...
I've played it bands a few times as "Sweet Lotus Blossom"
I visited the USA in 1980 with two friends preparing for a tour of jazz
festivals two years later by "The Australians Jazz Band".
By coincidence we were invited to attend a recording session by the Salty
Dogs Jazz Band at the Premier Recording Studio in St Louis. The Salty Dogs
recorded "Sweet Lotus Blossom" with Carol Leigh singing. The studio owner
Wilson Dalziel was moved to tell us how he recorded the same song by Julia
Lee and Her Friends in the 1930s. It was Julia Lee's second recorded
version of the song and we had it explained to us why the name of the song
had to be changed. For the Salty Dogs' recording he used the old RCA ribbon
mics but through a modern mixer and recorder. The studio still had all the
original cutting lathes etc. for 78RPM sitting around.
