Despite Covid, the Poznan festival took place on the 12th of September.
True, not everything went smoothly. The Latvian band scheduled to
participate was not allowed to leave Latvia, as Poland had been declared a
"red zone." The Czech band did arrive, but instead of going via Germany,
which would have involved a Covid test for each member at 125 euro per
person, had to take a longer route via Vroclav, Poland. But it finally
arrived. So there were only two local bands from Poznan, one - a swing big
band named Happy Jazz Band (does that name bring memories...), the other
one - the host band Dixie Company, another Polish band - Five O'Clock
Orchestra (a traditional band from Częstochowa), and the Czech group.
Still, there was the traditional parade in the old centre of the city, and
the important Little Academy - a concert for children with explanations of
traditional jazz. The size of the audience was restricted to comply with
the Covid regulations. At the end the hosts invite all the kids with
instruments on stage (not sure this happened this year, due to the Covid
restrictions, but it's the usual practice).
At least, they did their best!
concerts this year were free.
Kudos to the organizer, the band's drummer and musical director, Mr. Piotr
Soroka!
Cheers
