Marek has been prompted by Bob Ringwald to visit Australia.
The time you might consider a visit is between 26th and 31st December next.
The Australian Jazz Convention (AJC) has just been held in Albury, NSW and,
will be held there again in 2020. Guest musicians at the AJC were Shaye
Cohn of Tuba Skinny and, Marla Dixon of the Shake 'em Up Jazz Band. They
were programmed with a mix of local bands and pick-up or convention bands.
It was a great success and, it is hoped they will return for the next one.
They arrived and will depart today via Melbourne Airport. I was lucky
enough to be their driver to and from Albury.
Two final gigs were arranged in Melbourne by the AJC. One with an all-star
band in a returned servicemen's club and, a final gig yesterday with the
Louisiana Shakers at their regular venue, the Clyde Hotel in inner
Melbourne. Both packed out. Present or involved in playing were musicians
from all the local bands such as the Syncopators, Stevenson's Rockets,
Steve Waddell's Creole Bells Revival Band, Yarra Yarra N.O. Jazz Band,
Storyville Allstars. Many of us still playing have played in bands or, with
members of the legendary Australian bands of Graeme Bell, Frank Johnson and
Len Barnard. There really is a lot of jazz to be seen in old Melbourne
throughout the year with some great younger traditional jazz bands with
good followings.
