I noticed that the music which I knew when growing into someone interested in jazz. Mention jazz to today's music fans and they have no idea about jazz AS WE KNOW IT.

Apologies

I see I have been comprehensively incomprehensible!

Suffering from a crammed day I tried to play the PORGY AND BESS on Windows Media Player, and was informed that it was "smooth jazz" and valued not at five stars but less than one. And I tried to joke about it, but even at my age I was aghast at the stupid classification.

feeling better after a good snooze

Why are you bringing up a musical format which has (in my opinion) little to do with most of us signed up for "Dixieland Jazz".

Don't get me wrong, my tastes go from Dixieland, to Swing, to classical, etc. I imagine that others feel the same way. Frankly, I have Gil Evans' "Porgy and Bess" and it's great music.

It's not that I'm accusing any of the even more senior brethren, but on playing the Gil Evans and friend PORGY AND BESS on what I could call dimwoes mediocre betrayer I found an alleged description "smooth jazz" -- and whatever dowp and dimwit is charged with that libel rated the CD at half a star.....

I suspect that persons in less than the robustest health might disable the standering facility of Dimwoes Mediocre Player before there's an accident.
