Anyone wishing to learn about scales other than Major or Minor and
comparisons between G# and Ab etc. more important how chords can resolve
there are some important details that are left out of most theory books.
Try reading "The Shaping Forces In Music" by Ernst Toch. If you read
music - play all the examples. This sucker proves that an octave
(interval) can be more dissonant than a major 7th.
If you are into composition or arranging, this book is helpful by giving
the reader some interesting insights.
For a detailed listing of "tonal" scales there's "Kaleidaphone" by
Joseph Schillinger.
