Was wondering if the New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra is still playing? The Potomac River
Jazz Club of Washington, D C had the pleasure of hearing them a number of years back
when they were on a U S tour. Their tours always included Davenport, Iowa the
birthplace of Bix.

In the 1960s and ?70s I worked at a night club in Sacramento, CA. From time to time we would have special concerts from out of town bands. One band was the Trevor Richards Trio. Can anyone tell me where the band?s home base was? London?

Hello Bob,

The different sources have some conflicting dates esp. the first 20 years, however the general picture is:

1945 - born in Bexhill-on-Sea, near Hastings - UK
About age 20 - moved to the USA, first New York,
after a while - to New Orleans

In 1972 started touring the world with his trio. And literally the world, also remember his name from festivals in Europe.
Back to New Orleans in 1982

Since Katrina, 29. August 2005, exactly on his 60th birthday, Trevor mainly lives in Engeland again.

Kind regards,

Bert Brandsma

Yep.
I heard Trevor Richards Trio (with Red Richards and John Defferary in Breda
many years ago. A good friend of mine heard his trio in England, with. I
believe, John Barton on piano. Trevor Richards Trio made lots of
recordings as either Trevor Richards New Orleans Trio or Trevor Richards
International trio, featuring some of the world's best pianists and
clarinettists (or, in the event of Olivier Franc - soprano saxophonists).
Cheers

Britain's leading jazz radio presenter nd classically trained
instrumentalist Alyn Shipton played bass in the trio. In fact Alyn and
Trevor worked together? a great deal over the years.

Many years ago I contacted Trevor asking for help in the compilation of his
discography. He replied and supplied a lot of details.

My last contact with him was in 2016 but the discography is still not
finished. It now covers over 50 years.

In his last e-mail he told me that his health was not so good but he was
drumming again although less than in previous years.

I'll contact him again!
