Championship of jazz was early seventies in Indianapolis. I played there
with our Climax Jazz Band. Wild Bill was there, Kid Thomas, Joe Venuti
to name a few. From what I remember, it was organised by an American
guy Sam...(don't remember last name) with involvement of Max Collie.
We had a nice time playing together with Max's band.
At the end of the festival, we all got a medal and somebody ( I believe it
was Sam) took off with all the money. Nobody got paid for the air fare,
hotel and or the gig. Except I believe Wild Bill got paid because he went
to the bank early enough. It was a wonderful festival with a lot of good
bands, too bad it ended this way.
Keep on Jazzin"
Jack Vincken
