The French word for mare is jument, n'est-ce pas?

Her's another and green parody of a line from an ancient pop-song

Robert R. Calder

LA MER, L'AMERE

The old mer's grey
and not as she ought to be,
healthy, unpolluted, with spray
just like Homer's deep blue sea
when the sun rosy-fingered of a morning
climbed where whelks and limpets clung,
and the air was fresh entering
Helen of Troy's each pink lung --
for the sequel there's still Hell to pay, that Wooden Horse didn't come free.
