So sad to hear about the passing of Dave Shepherd. I always enjoyed is style
and fantastic playing....while much like Benny Goodman and Pete Fountain I
always loved his warm rounded tone in the lower and middle register.

Here is a youtube link to a recording of Dave with Teddy Wilson some may
enjoy....Dave Plays on the second tune "After You've Gone" at about 5 mins
in.

Hi All,

The Grim Reaper has been into the British jazz fold again recently: I heard
today of the recent passing of the marvelous English clarinettist Dave
Shepherd. Here's a link to his obit in the Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/dec/28/dave-shepherd-obituary

Dave was not just an immaculate player, he was also an immaculate dresser
and an all-round good guy who kept the highest of musical company and never
had a bad word to say about anyone. His style was strongly based on Benny
Goodman's playing, so he was at home playing Dixieland or Mainstream jazz,
and he was so good that a frequent collaborator, no less than pianist Teddy
Wilson, said of him that "it was just like playing with Benny, but without
all the BS!"

Another good one gone,

Ken
