Thanks, Norman. Yes, my reaction to the Ken Burns series was, first, enormous gratitude that millions of people got a close and intensive exposure to jazz history. My beef—as you say, everybody had some—was that certain commentators and artists got unwarranted heaps of attention. Two worthy figures, Artie Shaw and Dave Brubeck, got excessive attention because they happened to be (a) still alive and (b) very articulate. Woody Herman and Bud Powell, were short-changed in comparison. But again, gratitude.
