Hey Andrew,
I've come to recognize three types of musician:
1. Those that know music -- they hear and can produce music.
2. Those that know about music -- they understand the theory and system
of symbols and can communicate about music. They can play with a sheet
in front of them or something memorized. Accomplished ones can even
make it sound like music.
3. Those that have both in their grasp.
Everyone wants to be a '3', but I would choose to be '1' over '2'. '2'
is more easily learned and the methodology for teaching these skills is
fully developed, while '1' can seem to be a natural talent. '1' can be
taught and learned, but is more elusive.
But they are all musicians and their accomplishments should be
appreciated. Each needs help sometimes.
Ken (a '2', working on becoming a '3' by studying '1' [story of my life])

Thanks for letting me know who you are. I hope I never have the misfortune to meet you in person. You obviously don't know this list and how supportive and helpful we are to each other. This is not the place for you.
